Byron constructed this poem in chronological order first referring to his
childhood the to his older present life as he ages. He speaks of times
when he was young and careless, how his life was better when he was
young. How he hates aging and how he will soon die anyways. In the
poem it also talks about how he has lost all of the people he cared
about and to only be able to meet with them in heaven. Some literary
devices used in this poem where imagery, diction, and hyperbole.
Imagery was used more in the beginning when he was describing his
childhood, describing the ocean and the mountains.Diction was used
throughout the poem but i feel as if the diction changed through the
poem when he transitioned into the sadder scene of losing all of his
loved ones. Finally Byron used hyperbole an example when the author
used this is in the line where it says " Through pleasure stirs a
maddening soul" this is a hyperbole because you can not physically stir
a soul.
